Module 2 · Lesson 2
Video lesson
A calm, non-punitive script for the exact moment it all goes sideways — for parents and for staff on the floor.

Narration in Ariella's voice — this is the text that will be recorded.
So they won't go. They're standing there, arms folded, and you can feel your own patience thinning. Let's talk about the next sixty seconds, because that's where this is won or lost.
First, drop your shoulders and lower your voice. Your calm is the intervention. A child who senses a battle brewing will fight it, because refusing is one of the few powers they have.
Then take the demand out of it. Instead of 'you need to do a wee now', try: 'It's toilet time. You don't have to do anything — we're just having a sit.' Sitting is a win. Take the win.
Offer a small, real choice. Potty or toilet? Book or bubbles? Choice hands back a little control, and control was usually what the standoff was about.
Set a timer for two minutes. When it goes off, everyone's finished, cheerfully, whatever happened. The timer ends it, not you — so there's nobody to push against.
And when there's an accident? Say the words: 'That's okay. Wee goes in the toilet. Let's get you clean.' Flat, kind, boring. Then move on. No lecture, no sighing, no audience.
You will have days where you get this wrong, and so will I. Come back to it calm the next time. Consistency over weeks beats perfection on any single afternoon — I promise you that.
